HEY CUPCAKE!

What’s up, chicklets! Here’s what I’ve been up to this past week or two (k, me and a crew of super helpful/talented/awesome friends):

The above are all from my mid-term project. The assignment was to coordinate and style a photoshoot (actually, two shoots, but more on that later) based around a plain white tee. Easy enough, right? riiiiiight…..Tons of work but totes worth it ’cause I got an A! Killing it, to the 2nd power!

I decided on the pastel color story since I’m love, love, loving all the Easter-egg pastels for Spring and because it is a major, MAAAAJOR (say it in a Rachel Zoe voice) trend right now AND the Man Repeller says pastels are the tits and pretty much, whatever she says is the final word. ‘Cause, you know, she’s like the fashion ruler of the world (in my book at least). So there ya have it, a cotton-candy colored editorial!

*In addition to the Easter Bunny and  Peeps, I’d like to think unicorns had a hand in inspiring this shoot. In fact, they definitely were inspiration—–>Click here to visit Candy Mountain!

**Thanks to Sierra for being a lovely model and to Kalyn for the killer hair+makeup job AND photography (one-woman wonder). Y’all rock! Oh and thank you Becca for the use of your cake plates and kitchen chair! ;)

***K, one more thank you: To Z, for being the most understanding and patient 4 year old and putting up with Momma playing fashion dictator all day. Thanks for expertly stacking the cotton candy and eating most of it and then falling soundly asleep on the floor. <—–used unicorn plushie as pillow. #genuis

JESSICA

Call me biased, but I totes have the most beautiful and talented friends in the whole wide world! This is Jess. She’s a interior stylist, color consultant, visual merchandiser, photographer, skilled thrift store huntress and one hot mama. She designs our windows (Parts+Labour) and kicks ass at it. Really though, check out her work at Oh Shoot! (which shows off her photo booth work, #SOCUTE!) and Hello Jessica Levin.

MEMBERS ONLY

This one time I went to the store to buy inexpensive black clothing to wear to my other job (the restaurant one) but then I found $10 shimmery leopard print shoes and bought those instead….good story, huh?

Actually, I also bought some high-waisted black pants (see photo above) that were $5 on the clearance rack and then also that oversized, chambray-ish buttondown for another $5.

Now, it’s a really good story. (This is the part where I’m supposed to say, “…and then I found $5.” Except instead of finding it, I spent it. Actually, $5 times 4. Good math, cha. Twenty dollar holler!!)

Did I mention Top to Bottom is quickly becoming my favorite retail therapy store? Cheap and easy and fast. #TWSS?

Balls of Steel Silver necklace: hand-me-down from Grandma / Jacket: That’s Swank

(Note: buy shirts at the Ghetto Superstore and the buttons are guaranteed to fall off five minutes before heading out the door. Lesson learned.)

Ring: Silverado (no, not the gay strip club. In case you’re reading this, Mom)

When in doubt, be awkward.

I lost my head. that’s all.

Did you know Kalyn Benaroya is the one behind the camera? She’s amazing for meeting me early on Saturdays to grab coffee and freeze our arses off and take pictas. And then we go to work.

kthxbye!

Goin’ Steady

Club Monaco Jacket, worn by Blair of Atlantic-Pacific

A custom jacket designed and worn by Enrico Costantini at Milan Fashion Week. BTW this kid is way awesome. Check him out here. Photo: Italian Vogue

Chelsea of Style Block, wearing a bedazzled version of the varsity.

Varsity jackets are having a moment! (for reference, see here here here and here. oh, and here). I really want one. When I tried to express my need for said letterman jacket to my ever practical mother, she kind of looked at me funny because it’s a pretty well-known that I’m not sporty at all and I think my mom actually (seriously) said, “Really, why, what do you want to letter in??” Haha, mom. And then ever the idealist, “Don’t you know those are upwards of $300??” and then, “Why do you need a $300 ‘sporty’ jacket???”

Because, Mom, VARISTY JACKETS ARE HAVING A MOMENT. Yeah, maybe I passed up this trend while in high school and avoided all sporty things because jocks are dumb and I fall down too much when required to do anything athletic and for some reason they wouldn’t let me letter in my aerobics/dance P.E. class. (Honestly the only sports team I was (technically) apart of was the wrestling team and that was because I was took statistics or as someone so bluntly put it once, I was a stat rat. Whatever. Lots of boys in spandex. You would have done it too. HELLO.)

Anyway, now that I’m far removed from that life (cough, Idaho), it’s a bit ironic that the letterman jacket is now at the list of my must-haves. Another note of irony is that the letterman/varsity jacket is THE standard sign for going steady à la the 1950′s. It’s a super-cute sentiment and a classic symbolism of the whole idea of “belonging” to someone. Buuuuut if you’re like me and single for life independent and don’t have a cute jock to go steady with, then just be you own boyfriend. Or simply, buy your own damn jacket.

And all that to say, here are my picks:

Chole Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

WeSC Varsity Jacket in Leopard (EEEeeee!!)

Joyrich Duo Color Varsity Jacket

KITH x Pendleton Varsity Jacket. Someone buy this for me. I don’t even care that only size XL is left…

And then I fell in love with this one:

Nike Moto Destroyer Women’s Jacket

But then I realized this one isn’t even a really a varsity jacket and actually a moto jacket and now it’s back to square one. Still on the hunt for the perfect letterman jacket!!

To be continued…
