NEVER THE BRIDE

Since Halloween was ages ago in Internet time and it’s now practically Christmas, I’m taking advantage of this day the week to post a ThrowBackThursday post and show off my kickass Skelotor-esqe Halloweekend makeup from aforementioned holiday.

*If the poorly-structured previous sentence made sense to you, then sweet, that’s probably why we’re still friends…#rambler

Huge thanks to Manja of Shining Faces for getting it and producing exactly what I had in mind. Complete with black glittery eye-sockets.

Dress by RVCA, photos by Rebeka.

And I’m all ready planning next year’s costume…

VARSITY BLUE

L to R: random sparkle bangles, Natalie B cross bracelet, letter arm candy homemade with love, more random sparkle

Gloria Vanderbilt boots from Darling Boutique, RVCA jorts, Ella Moss top. And jacket courtesy of St. Vincent de Paul.

I finally found my varsity jacket. And by finally found, I mean picked it up at the thrift store several months back for a whopping $1.50. Yes. One dollar and fifty cents. I don’t even know how it happened but it did and I’m pretty stoked about that. It’ll hold me over ’til my “real” varsity jacket gets here. (which will be sometime this month. EEeeeee!)

But to be perfectly honest, I kind of love my thifted West Virginia jacket and I don’t know if I’ll even want to switch it out for the new one that’s on the way. It’s entertaining to wear it out as it’s quite the conversation piece: No, I did not go to school in West Virginia nor have I ever visited but I look cool so what else matters??

See what I mean? Conversation starter. Or finisher. Something like that.

Bye Ladies and Lasses, stay golden!

CHERRY BLOSSOM GIRL

Alternative post title: A Van (not) Down by The River.

My fave time of year is when the trees go all high fashion and turn into cotton-candy-like puffballs of pink blossomy goodness. In other words, SPRINGTIME! How gorge is the Gorge when it’s in full bloom? TOTES GORGE. (I’m full of it today. Consider yourself warned.)

Anyway, the pink blossom season marks that time of year when the foreign glowing orb in the sky generously casts it’s warmth upon us and we pale Pacific Northwesterners are reminded that there is a season called Summer and it is slowly making it’s return. Except the day we took these pictures, the glowing sky-orb (it’s called the sun, in case you forgot) was a mean trickster and it was actually fracking cold out. No surprise there, right? #helloPNWweather

And thanks, to the random people whose front yard I borrowed. I happen to love this particular 9th street corner. “They have twees, Norman! Twees!” (that one was for my mom. I don’t expect you to get the joke. Unless of course, you were raised on wholesome and heartwarming films such as this.)

Vest: F21 // Fringe top: family vintage // Maxi dress: H&M // Boots: Steve Madden

From left: Twiggs, Vintage, nOIr Jewelry

And then we found a van.

We loved the van. #HowToPoseLikeAWeirdo101

Thanks for the good times, van.

PARIS FAIR BUILDING

This was the morning I noticed it wasn’t ridiculously cold out. Like, you could actually feel the warmth of the sun. How very lovely.

New and Good:

I got new-to-me boots and I like them very much. I’ve been wanting to replace my favorite cream Aldo boots since I’ve worn them to death and then I found these ones (almost identical) on Darling Boutique! Thanks, Rachel! Also, excited about the Jason Wu for Target top that I found on clearance. So much so, I don’t even care that it’s two sizes too big. Oh and you might have noticed the sideshave. That’s new too. Feeling the Annie Lennox vibe and transitioning into summer hairz….

Top: Jason Wu for Target / Shorts: Bik Bok / Tights: Walmart undisclosed location / Boots: Gloria Vanderbilt / and I betcha didn’t know I’m wearing a bodysuit. Leftovers from Halloween, 2009.

Thanks for playing!

PRIVATE PARKING

Deep thought of the day: If you ever happen upon an empty parking lot which is flanked by blank walls of interesting texture, the best and most logical thing to do is strut around in front of said interesting walls in a way that flatters your excessively long skirt. It also helps if there’s a brisk morning breeze blowing through aforementioned parking lot.

That is all.

Maxi skirt: H&M (On clearance for $4. steal of a deal.) / Sweater: Wildfox / Jacket: H&M / Shoes: Betsey Johnson / Earrings: MINK Jewelry from Parts+Labour/ Ring: Claire’s / Bracelet: Twiggs

PS: just for fun—-> rabbit hole.

MEMBERS ONLY

This one time I went to the store to buy inexpensive black clothing to wear to my other job (the restaurant one) but then I found $10 shimmery leopard print shoes and bought those instead….good story, huh?

Actually, I also bought some high-waisted black pants (see photo above) that were $5 on the clearance rack and then also that oversized, chambray-ish buttondown for another $5.

Now, it’s a really good story. (This is the part where I’m supposed to say, “…and then I found $5.” Except instead of finding it, I spent it. Actually, $5 times 4. Good math, cha. Twenty dollar holler!!)

Did I mention Top to Bottom is quickly becoming my favorite retail therapy store? Cheap and easy and fast. #TWSS?

Balls of Steel Silver necklace: hand-me-down from Grandma / Jacket: That’s Swank

(Note: buy shirts at the Ghetto Superstore and the buttons are guaranteed to fall off five minutes before heading out the door. Lesson learned.)

Ring: Silverado (no, not the gay strip club. In case you’re reading this, Mom)

When in doubt, be awkward.

I lost my head. that’s all.

Did you know Kalyn Benaroya is the one behind the camera? She’s amazing for meeting me early on Saturdays to grab coffee and freeze our arses off and take pictas. And then we go to work.

kthxbye!

Ice, Ice, Baby

Coat: Pendleton / Jacket: Kimchi Blue / Top: H&M / Jeans: the back of my closet / Shoes: Payless / Bag: A free Will Bag  from a  work trip / Arm party: Cuff: b-day present from a bestie / Lapis: Grandma / Disney babies: H&M kids dept / Charm bracelet: from a church program I attended as a kid (I was supposed to earn the intials S.T.A.R. but I only made it to the S.) / Noah’s ark bracelet: also from way back when / Pretty purple stones: Grandma

Sometime around Wednesday of last week, a massive amount of snow and freezing rain coated Hood River in one gaint layer (or two) of ice. Schools closed, tons of people were (and some still are) without power and getting anywhere was just about impossible. I didn’t work for three days, which was fun at first (SNOWDAYZ!) and now my apartment is real clean/organized. But being stuck indoors gets old real fast. (#CABINFEVER! ) And since we never really see weather like this, everyone freaks and the city can’t keep up maintenance and the town is one big slush pile. In just going the five minute drive between my place and downtown, I high-centered my car once and fell on my ass twice. (#SKILLZ)

And obviously, the most logical thing to do when Snowpocalypse 2012 hits is walk around in frigid weather wearing impractical footwear. Makes sense, right? Eating sh*t/breaking an ankle is a sacrifice I’m willing to make to look good. (Joking. I’m not that vain, I wore my Sorels in real life). We got some pretty funny WTF looks from everyone that was walking/sliding/shuffling by (all bundled head-to-toe in The Outdoor Store or something) and just deperately trying to make it down the block without breaking any limbs.

Fingers crossed that the worst has passed! ‘Cause I’m so OVER IT.

*On a serious note, I am super grateful to have power and all my loved ones kept safe and sound. I know there are some who have been inconvenienced way more than me.

Stay safe out there, ducklings!
