I’m loving the whole hair-chalking trend in a major way. Check out Skyler’s super sweet version! She posted a pic on Facebook and I liked it so much she agreed to let me take a few photos for the blog. Thanks, darlin’!
And then I proceeded to accidentally lock us out of the building where we had left all our things, including my phone. If you know me and my phone, then you understand my stress of not having it on my person AT ALL TIMES!!! (‘cuz I might miss something really important or Instagram or whatever. #addict). Anyway, we got rescued eventually, I got my phone back and three weeks later, here are the photos of Skyler and her pretty hair.
you. are. welcome.
hugs + kisses,
M
What’s up, chicklets! Here’s what I’ve been up to this past week or two (k, me and a crew of super helpful/talented/awesome friends):
The above are all from my mid-term project. The assignment was to coordinate and style a photoshoot (actually, two shoots, but more on that later) based around a plain white tee. Easy enough, right? riiiiiight…..Tons of work but totes worth it ’cause I got an A! Killing it, to the 2nd power!
I decided on the pastel color story since I’m love, love, loving all the Easter-egg pastels for Spring and because it is a major, MAAAAJOR (say it in a Rachel Zoe voice) trend right now AND the Man Repeller says pastels are the tits and pretty much, whatever she says is the final word. ‘Cause, you know, she’s like the fashion ruler of the world (in my book at least). So there ya have it, a cotton-candy colored editorial!
*In addition to the Easter Bunny and Peeps, I’d like to think unicorns had a hand in inspiring this shoot. In fact, they definitely were inspiration—–>Click here to visit Candy Mountain!
**Thanks to Sierra for being a lovely model and to Kalyn for the killer hair+makeup job AND photography (one-woman wonder). Y’all rock! Oh and thank you Becca for the use of your cake plates and kitchen chair! ;)
***K, one more thank you: To Z, for being the most understanding and patient 4 year old and putting up with Momma playing fashion dictator all day. Thanks for expertly stacking the cotton candy and eating most of it and then falling soundly asleep on the floor. <—–used unicorn plushie as pillow. #genuis

Call me biased, but I totes have the most beautiful and talented friends in the whole wide world! This is Jess. She’s a interior stylist, color consultant, visual merchandiser, photographer, skilled thrift store huntress and one hot mama. She designs our windows (Parts+Labour) and kicks ass at it. Really though, check out her work at Oh Shoot! (which shows off her photo booth work, #SOCUTE!) and Hello Jessica Levin.

This is Rachel. Doesn’t she look like the modern day Pocahontas? yes. Truly beautiful inside and out ’cause she’s a sweetheart too. On top of going to school, working and being lovely, she also creates all sorts of warrior princess pretties like these dreamcatcher pieces. Check out the Darling Boutique——->Ready, set, click!
I got to pick my favorite, thank you Rach!

Got to hang out with Rachel of The Darling Boutique last Sunday morning. More photos to follow…
If you’re a fashion blog follower or know anything about fashion in general, than you know of Leandra Medine aka The Man Repeller.

And if you haven’t heard of her, you probably live under a rock like Patrick Star. That’s okay, all starfish welcome.
(Ok, third option: you have a life OUTSIDE of the fashion world. The latter, I cannot understand as fashion is all my brain consumes. But I love you anyway and we’re friends, yay! :)
Back to the Man Repeller. READ ON:
Over the course of a year and some odd months, Leandra Medine has taken the blogging world by storm (really though, she has) and established a particular niche with her distinct and self-titled “man-repelling” style.
By definition, to man-repel is “outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs. ” Think designers like Rag&Bone, Alexander Wang, Jill Stuart, Alexander McQueen, Helmut Lang, Proenza Schouler, etc. Man repelling trends are those that fashion-forward women love and straight men hate. (In the rare occasion your man actually likes what you wear, he’s either highly aware and appreciative of current fashion trends or he’s gay.)
For further examples of the man repelling nature, see below:

And then some:
Ms Man Repeller is highly-successful at what she does and is in high demand, so I feel extremely lucky to have scored an interview with her. As someone with a fond love for designer goods (even if I can’t afford them yet), I’m so glad there is someone like Leandra making a case for fashion forward trends and most of all, acting as spokesperson for self-confident women. Oh, did I mention that she respects the sparkle just as much as me??
A MOMENT WITH THE MAN REPELLER:
One Lone Magpie: For anyone who isn’t up to speed, please divulge, what is the ManRepeller.com?
Man Repeller: It’s a fashion site about trends that women love and men hate.
OLM: What is the hottest man-repelling item of Fall 2011? How about Spring 2012?
MR: Fall 2011: Monochroming in velvet, spring 2012: the greasy hair look.
OLM: You have a excellent eye for style and putting together an outfit. If you could style anyone in Hollywood for a red carpet event, who would that be and what designer(s) would you utilize?
MR: I’d love to style Anne Hathaway, she’s a great combination of beauty and wit. I’d likely use Prabal Gurung, Elie Saab and Louis Vuitton.
OLM: You’ve worked on some awesome designer collaborations. Are there any others in the works? Who else would you love to work with in the future?
MR: Sure are, I have two pairs of shoes and a blazer rolling out in the next couple of months. Ideally, I’d love to be able to design something for Thakoon, or Carven.

MR: Stats are steadily increasing, they always have been–I was very lucky with this.
OLM: You’ve said you spend about 3-5 hours a day working on your blog. What motivates you to keep blogging so regularly?
MR: It’s my full time job and the way that I sustain myself, so…that.
OLM: How do you deal with negative feedback from snarky, anonymous commenters?
MR: I deal with it by not dealing with it. Of course people are going to hate me, that’s fine. To each their own.
MR: Really fucking great. So much so, I had to curse.
She went on to say, “…man repelling is about finding confidence not repelling men. Because no matter what you wearing…long or short, tight or loose, if you’re confident in it, it shows. And there’s nothing sexier than confidence. You know, spandex aside.”
Agreed! Thanks again,Leandra. Keep on doin’ what you do!
x+o,
M
